What We Do

The Trauma Care Network's philosophy of intervention acknowledges that the majority of persons affected in the aftermath of a traumatic event respond with a normative reaction given the sudden, unexpected and, oftentimes, catastrophic nature of the event. Most individuals demonstrate resilience, and our role as Trauma Clinicians is to become involved early, to support the natural healing process, and to provide useful education and therapeutic intervention.

  • Our bilingual Trauma Specialists are available upon request.
  • Mobile on-site trauma counselling for individuals and groups. The majority of TCN's clinical interventions take place in the client's home or location where they are most comfortable.
  • on-site coordination of critical incident response:
    • management consultation / strategic planning / debriefing
    • risk assessment and pre-planning
    • demobilization (large group defusing)
    • individual or group defusing
    • psychological, educational, and cumulative stress debriefing
    • information sessions
    • operational debriefing
  • Trauma-related grief counselling for individuals and groups. Grief counselling is provided to individuals or groups who have been identified as requiring more long-term, specialized professional care.
  • Collaboration with community resources. Support does not end after the initial trauma response interventions are complete. It also is important to evaluate the services that have been provided, and to explore other community resources that may be needed for long-term recovery.
  • Wide range of trauma response training services. TCN develops specialized training programs tailored to an organization's unique needs. Also visit our Organizational Training and Educational Services page.

The Trauma Care Network provides solution focused, short-term, goal-
oriented intervention designed to:

  • Assist the individual in effectively managing the acute symptomatology resultant from exposure to a critical incident;
  • Promote occupational reintegration;and,
  • Assist the individual in returning to a pre-trauma level of function.

The Trauma Care Network works in collaboration with a diverse group of community partners to provide a comprehensive level of care. We believe it is essential to maintain contact with family physicians, case managers, rehabilitation specialists, employers, and family members, and to encourage contact and participation in peer support groups and associations within the community.

The Trauma Care Network receives referrals from a wide range of community-based resources. We work closely with many community organizations such as Bereaved Family's of Ontario, Employee Assistance Programs, MADD, Victims Assistance groups, and emergency services. TCN complements community victim services in the following way:

  • Longer term assistance: 6-12 months
  • Province-wide, mobile response
  • Professional, certified, experienced clinicians
  • Focused mandate
  • Bilingual services

The Trauma Care Network is a private organization, which works from a community-based mandate that victims and their families do not incur any direct costs associated with our services. The Trauma Care Network accesses funding for services through a wide range of private and public sector organizations. All funding arrangements are facilitated through the Trauma Care Network.
